ORDO HERETICUS
dream into dust is a newcomer band in the noise/experimental scene, as far as I know. Could you introduce band members and your previous experiences regarding music?
our MCD
no man's land was created by
derek rush (myself), with patrick hogan and bryin dall. previously i had released a cassette under the name
december, which led to
a 7" on elfenblut/misanthopy records. patrick was also in a band called figurehead, then
bitter grace, and bryin is in
loretta's doll, who have five CDs on
world serpent. i can't say i regard us entierely in the noise/experimental context; i have great respect for the main practicioners of this art, and wouldn't presume to say we're doing the same thing. certainly there is an influence, because of the way the EP was put together. patrick and bryin improvised and their outpourings were worked into the pieces extensively, so the overall effect is disorienting and experimental-sounding, but actually there are structured songs.
How did you get to Chthonic Records?
chthonic streams is my own label and mail order company. the name refers to one of the three kinds of runic force, in this case the subterranean.
no man's land is a very well produced EP, its title describes properly the sound material's visionary soundscapes of emptiness and its precedent, the swirling chaos...it is conceptual indeed. What are the ideas behind D.I.D.? Is it a depiction of today's world, or is it a dystopia?
are you saying today's world is NOT a "dystopia"? the ideas behind what we do are ever-shifting, but usually will have some element of darkness and reflection. sometimes this may manifest itself as melancholy and melodic music, others as dissonant sounds or blistering noise.
Listening to
no man's land I associated two bands to your music: Bauhaus and The Cure. The track "The Lost Crusade" reminds me of early
bauhaus, and "The Hanging Garden" by
the cure is similar to DID's music in its atmosphere and ghastly lyrics.... also the symbol of "garden" comes up several times... please comment.
i don't see the associations you suggest, although all of us respect those bands.
"the lost crusade" was written as a heavy metal guitar riff but then transposed to cello. the line "in the garden in twilight" in
"age of delirium" refers to an old superstition, although it was slightly modified. it's one of the various metaphors in the song for the state of things as they're going wrong and out of control.
What is the meaning of "Dissolution"'s lyrics? I am thinking of "seven cups float across the sky, behind them ten swords cross", for example... what deeper/magickal meaning does the text bear?
in the
hermetic tarot, the seven of cups is subtitled "lord of illusionary success", while the ten of swords is called "lord of ruin". you can make of that what you will in the context of the song.
Who writes the lyrics for the music? Where the does the inspiration come from?
i write the lyrics. the inspiration comes from life, books on magick and philosophy, films. something always has to generate emotion in me. on
no man's land, one of the biggest inspirations apart from my state of mind at the time, was the film
ulysses' gaze by
theo angelopoulos.
Do you have any kind of message to the readers of OH and the Hungarian electro/industrial/noise-fans?
i hope that as many people as possible will have an open mind about music, and avoid the pitfalls of bland conformity or willful obscurity.
