DOLL MEAT

loss is an ever pervading theme in your lyrics. do you feel that it is impossible to gain something and not eventually have it slip away?

i think if i believed that i would see little point in trying to gain anything - which, some days seems like the logical path. however, i don't think anyone really knows the answer to that until the end of their life, and even then can only offer their own perspective and not a universal one.

in your opinion, can a person live their entire life without having some sort of crutch (religion, relationships, material possessions, etc.) to lean upon? a mortal numbness.

it may be possible. it would take a great amount of inner strength and discipline. most of us fail, if indeed it is failing to use such things from time to time. i think the real problem becomes when people can't go on without these "crutches", they become overly dependent on them to an unhealthy point.

now, let's move onto the musical aspects of DREAM INTO DUST. how would you describe your sound to those who have never heard you?

that's always been difficult. it contains elements of industrial (in the older sense of the word), classical, doom and folk without really being any one of them. we draw on these influences and more, between songs or blended into one piece. basically, if you can appreciate a variety of music that could be called "dark", you may like what wešre doing.

what are the machine-like sounds on the tracks "the lost crusade" and "seasons in the mist"?

on "the lost crusade" you may be referring to patrick running my ritual knife across various surfaces throughout the song. there is a sound at the end of "seasons in the mist" that represnts film turning on a projector, as in seeing the end of a movie.

what are the sources for the pictures used on the MCD? in particular, the incredible front cover? and what about your new release?

the images are from several different wars and countries. the front cover is dresden after a bombing, taken from the top of one of the few buildings left standing. 'the world we have lost' cover is people in wintertime during a cease-fire cleaning the streets and discovering bodies under the snow. this sort of imagery will be used less in the future as the themes shift to other topics.

are you interested in any sort of literature or films? what about art?

franz kafka, milan kundera, ursula k. leguin, some great graphic novels like from inside by john bergin. some favorite and influential films have been: the crucible, ulysses' gaze, das boot, coup de grace, wagner, a self-made hero, and of course monty python and the holy grail. naturally the prisoner tv series influenced our second release "a prison for oneself". my favorite visual artists include edvard munch, egon schiele, francis bacon, and h.r. giger.

any closing comments?

i hope that people will listen to unfamiliar sounds and ideas with an open mind. thank you.
